This excitingly intensive course offers a new conventional approach, using proven practical methods in traditional Art, to generate the knowledge, while visually demonstrating you have those proper skills required to succeed in an Art Career.

From the beginning, it is important to understand what the actual requirements of building a portfolio are and  its purpose. This is a practical tool, and should be designed to encourage visual entry to Universities instantly, without any need for words. The work should in your absence speak for itself. For it is misleading to ever suggest that words, opinions, taste or personal likes of any  kind have any practical bearing on the displaying of proven ability. For example, a liking for bright colours is not the same as liking good art, as they are non sequitur

Portfolio Building in Spain

The Great Tradition in European Art

The impressionist’s often used bright coloured subjects, wrongly claimed as modern, but actually, they were the very last recognised group to use those conventional skills, techniques, values and understandings of the Great Tradition in European Art, which lasted  for 700 years.

This traditional painting language, and the high art of painting, is the practical content of these courses now being offered here in Spain this year.

They are unique, as you won’t find these methods taught elsewhere in this straightforward conventional manner, and are self-evidently right for all, as the many who have completed these past courses will testify.

Irrespective of what knowledge, skill, or ability you bring to this opportunity, you cannot fail, for as has occurred from the very beginning, Charles always expects everybody to succeed, as his classes were designed accordingly.

Whatever standard you aspire to, or whatever your aims may be in an art career for the future, you may expect this first course will enable you to be able to complete a suitable drawing unsupervised after Lesson 4. And then begin the building process of your portfolio, with a new in-depth understanding of the world of great art from that moment on-wards.

Reviews

Leading Business Coach, Dr. Richard Norris, of Action International, has regularly maintained, “Anybody employing Charles must see his services as the ultimate investment for the future.”

Mr Padraig Flynn, European Commissioner, said of Charles’ paintings –“Looking at this work, I have never learned so much about painting in such a short period of time.”

“Charles’ classes are always practical, messy, really exciting and always enlightening. Charles is an exceptionally talented artist, teacher and critic.” -  former student Susan, Oxford

Martin Herbert, who, with his wife, attended one of Charles’ Masterclass Seminars on Italian Renaissance Painting at the ‘Viva Italia’ Exhibition held in Earls Court London, said – “We were impressed with the presentations held on the main stage, particularly Charles Harris – the art lecturer – who incorporated his passionate views into an extremely informative and entertaining lecture – we have never seen anything like it – more please!”

“I first received tutorship from Charles in the craft of Fine Art whilst at college studying engineering. I found his lessons in both style and content inspiring. His consistent and practical approach when applied to the basics of painting instilled a core understanding of perspective, tone and temperature values which represent ʻthe beating heart of painting’,whilst engendering passion for the deeper purpose of art in the world today. His obvious personal commitment to these values is undeniable, and in leading by example he inspired respect. After spending ten years in business I decided to change direction and to study Sculpture full-time and have been working and making a living from my art for the last ten years. I believe that in no small part this decision and subsequent rich and fulfilling life was rooted in Charlesʼ early and profoundly effecting tutorship.”-David Klein – sculptor

“Charles Harris is a grandmaster craftsman and his Painting is grandmaster creativity on a par with the assembly of ground-breaking scientific matter in Science or Physics”

Victoria Harding, MA. International Exhibitions Co-ordinator.
